Common Discipline Mistakes That Are Made With Children

As a parent, you have to discipline your child when he or she is doing something wrong so they can learn how to be a respectful and productive adult.
Many times when disciplining a child, there are major mistakes made that don't help the situation out at all.
Find out what these mistakes are so that you can be more fair with your child and they will learn better.
One mistake that parents make is not having a punishment at the time that the infraction happens.
This is hard on younger children who don't have a very good concept of time.
If the punishment is delayed for hours, they won't understand why you are punishing them and will think you are being cruel.
When the discipline comes quickly, they will associate the bad behavior as the reason for the punishment.
Don't contradict the other parent in front of the child.
Many parents do this with each other.
What it does is teaches the child how to play one parent against the other.
Instead of learning good behavior, they learn how to manipulate.
Don't make a series of threats giving out multiple warnings over and over.
A child will quickly learn that he or she can get away with something a number of time without consequences.
It's fine to have a warning, just don't have a number of them.
Yelling at your kids never helps the discipline process.
Children can feel hurt and afraid when this happens.
You are punishing your child to instruct them.
Yelling is not helpful.
Don't compare the bad child to other kids.
Don't make the child feel that he or she is not good enough like their brother or sister.
Some parents model poor behavior in front of their children.
The problem is that the child sees this and will act like it.
They will be confused in the discipline process when they see you act that way but then get punished when they do it.
Don't do things in front of your kids that you don't want them to do.
