How to Install the Driver for a Power Shot A40
- 1). Go to the Canon website. Type "PowerShot A40 driver" in the search box a the top of the page. Click the "Drivers and Software" link on the first search result to go to the PowerShot A40 driver download page.
- 2). Select Windows XP or Me from the drop-down menu and click the "Download" icon. It should take no more than two minutes to complete on a broadband connection.
- 3). Connect the camera to your computer. A dialog box will appear saying Windows cannot install the hardware and asks if you want to find the drivers manually. Click "Yes."
- 4). Use the window that pops up to browse your computer for the folder in which the driver was saved. This is usually the "Downloads" folder unless you specified another one. Click on the file to highlight it and click "Open."
- 5). Wait for windows to install the driver. It should take no more than two minutes. Once it installs, Windows will prompt you to turn off your computer to complete installation. You do not have to unplug the camera.
