If you're looking to build a business you MUST learn the rules to prosper and ensure your not turning customers away.
Let's cover some of the most popular sites.
Twitter-  Here's the fastest growing social media site that many marketers (both large corporations to the small guy in his house) are jumping on board in hopes to build a following of customers, and meet new potential prospects.
Netiquette for Twitter: 1) Engage in conversations with people, don't always be quick to refer back to your product of service.
2) This is your chance to give your product or service a PERSONALITY, so know what you stand for and express your opinions.
People will not follow you if you write boring, mundane comments 3) People HATE being sold to.
So don't do it.
Instead make it their idea to go to your site and learn more about what you have to offer.
The way to do this is to provide good valuable content on your related topic / industry.
YouTube - More companies are dishing out thousands of dollars on creating video advertisements in hopes for it to go 'viral' on this social media site.
Be careful how you do this.
Here are some Netiquette rules for YouTube.
1) Your material on should be entertaining AND provide some insights that will help your customer as to how your 'thing' is going to help them.
2) If it looks like a commercial - you will loose the audiences attention within seconds.
Why? Because we are trained from watching television to change the channel once a commercial comes on.
With the internet, it's even easier to close the screen and MOVE ON.
So don't make your ad 'look and feel' like a commercial 3) Do Not spam people's videos to have them check out your profile etc...
It will only annoy people and they just wont accept you! Facebook - Alright this is a touchy subject because people on Facebook feel like it's their Home on the internet.
Advertisers have had a hell of a time reaching people on this social media site, Facebook is still trying to find news ways to monatize their site.
Netiquette advice for Facebook: 1) Creating a profile can be great for your product or service, but don't make it look too 'salesy' and just have some interesting / fun content on it.
2) Do not use 'bait and switch' techniques when advertising on Facebook's PPC.
This goes for all advertising on the internet really but especially Facebook so don't be deceptive in your promotions.
3) DO NOT go around adding people you don't know.
This is really not accepted on Facebook and is actually just seen as 'creepy'.
So there you have it.
