It seems as if there is no end to the amount of social media sites one can sign up with today.
But there is not enough time in the day to utilize them all to their full potential.
Social media sites can be very time consuming, and with the sheer amount of users on each of them you have to be extremely active on a site to be considered a popular user.
Most of us don't have that kind of time.
That does not mean that we should ignore invitations to join these sites.
Social media sites can be beneficial to almost any business, especially to one as universally necessary as a law firm.
You can use social media sites to attract traffic to your firm's website.
Sign up for the ones you think will be important to your niche, such as LawLink and Legal OnRamp.
Contribute to each of the sites you sign up for until you can decide which one or two are worth regularly contributing to.
Contributing can help you in a couple of ways; it can increase direct traffic to your site as you can provide links in each post or in your signature line.
It can also get people to refer others to your site and firm by word of mouth, and can even generate more traffic than search engines.
Your goal should be to increase your popularity on the sites that you choose to be an active member of.
The way to do that is to make frequent, popular contributions and to be very active on the site.
These contributions may vary and could be articles, news submissions, videos, etc.
Your contributions will contain a link to your profile which will contain a link to your website, so the more popular that your contribution is the more traffic it can potentially generate.
Don't put all of your best content on the social media site however; you should give users a reason to visit your website.
In order to build an effective social media profile, you need to make sure that your profile has as much information about you and your firm as possible.
Include as many links as you can to your firm's site as possible.
If you have an Attorney Biography page, you could link to there, or you could link to more content.
Whatever you do, make the content of your profile such that it beckons visitors to your site.
Many social media sites offer plenty of profile customization options, take advantage of it.
Upload videos and images that represent your firm.
Make sure your profile is complete and ready for traffic.
Signing up for these sites is NOT a waste of time; they can be very valuable marketing and networking tools.
Even if you don't spend a ton of time on them you can still make your profile work for you.
Feature information on and links to your firm's site.
The increased traffic and stronger firm image will be well worth your while.
