How to Take Care of a Millet Purple Baron
- 1). Grow the Purple Baron in full sun to bring out the plant's deepest colors.
- 2). Fertilize the Purple Baron millet in early spring with 1 inch of compost mixed into the top 2 inches of soil surrounding the plant.
- 3). Water the millet if there has been no rain for two weeks. Although it is drought-tolerant, Purple Baron will be most attractive when it receives consistent irrigation.
- 4). Cut back the Purple Baron in the fall when it turns brown. Use sharp shears and trim the foliage to 3 or 4 inches above the soil.
- 5). Check the plant frequently for aphids. They can be washed off the plant with a strong jet of water from the hose or use insecticidal soap spray. Ensure that all of the aphids are completely covered with the product.
