The Internet is a wonderful place to find information, but it can also be your worst nightmare.
It is easy to get lost in multiple links; you press one link, and it leads to another, it leads to another, and so on.
You either end up totally lost or back where you started.
You could start out looking for exercises to tone your backside, and end up at a porn site.
Although this is true of the Internet, if you have the time and the patience to look around you will find some great information online.
The Internet is full of top-notch information, but it is also full of a lot of rubbish.
You will generally come across more crap on the Internet than any other publication that you may read.
This being said, it is important to look at everything with a scrutinizing eye.
To help you with the task of finding the gold in fitness information on the Internet, be sure to keep the following in mind.
The majority of things on the Internet are there to make money.
The line between advertising and general information is blurry on the Internet.
There have been many cases on the Internet where advertisements are disguised as objective information.
A few years ago even our own Surgeon General got into hot water over the issue.
He owned a trusted health site that presented the most innovative and trusted hospitals in the United States.
Much to everyone's surprise, it was found out that the hospitals that were featured in the article paid to be featured in it.
Do you believe this article really was subjective? The reader had no way of knowing.
You should also be weary of product and book reviews online.
The majority of the sites that have these reviews are also selling the products that they are promoting.
They sell these items through the links in text or have box on the page that you are sometimes directed towards.
In order to combat this be sure that you are getting your information from a trusted source and checking multiple sources, not just one.
Another thing to consider when looking for fitness information is to consider the source of the information.
Does the person making these claims actually have a clue what they are talking about or are they trying to sell me something? For example, when a mainstream publication releases an article it is usually filled with credible coaches or professors.
But on a website the person that is possibly being quoted could have a financial stake in whatever is being promoted.
All this being said, just consider the source of the information and why they are commenting on a certain product.
The Internet is full of outdated information although it is in its infancy.
Many people use the Internet to find the most up to date information about whatever they are looking for, and the Internet is a great place to do this.
The problem with this is that many site are loaded with ancient material that has not been updated since they put it on the site.
Some of these sites have been around since the early 1990's.
Don't you think fitness has advanced in the last 20 years? The Internet is young and information will improve and be more current as time progresses.
In the meantime be sure to conduct additional research and get multiple resources together to make a informed choice.
