Resveratrol is fast becoming one of the health buzz words of the decade.
With studies now showing that resveratrol may well have significant effects on such cancers as prostate and breast cancer, the news is good.
But is there a link between resveratrol and diabetes as well? Diabetes is an insidious disease.
It seems benign at first, but can gradually overwhelm you.
Anyone who has diabetes and has had it for some time will know what I mean.
So when it looked like there was a connection between resveratrol and diabetes relief science jumped in to study it.
But first what is resveratrol? It is a phenolic compound found in the skin of red grapes and some other fruits, and so is also found in red wine.
This is one of the reasons why experts are now saying that taking a glass of red wine a day is good for you.
It has been extensively studied and science has found in various animal trials that it may well be extremely beneficial to those suffering from a wide range of cancers.
But the latest study is showing a link between resveratrol and diabetes cures, as well as protecting against extreme weight gain too.
And the two go together.
Researchers from a number on universities in conjunction with a pharmaceutical company studied the effects of resveratrol on the muscles of mice.
Although the results were quite complex they boiled down to this.
Resveratrol had the effect that the muscles used up more energy when working.
Using more energy of course is extremely beneficial to weight control.
The muscles used more oxygen.
And a link was found between resveratrol and diabetes control or prevention, particularly type 2 diabetes.
The link was sufficient to convince the researchers to proceed to human trials, and this is encouraging indeed.
Now of course until the results of the human trials are in it isn't fully proven.
However there is no doubt that resveratrol is causing quite some stir in the health industry, and more and more are now taking resveratrol supplements as a preventative.
Of course you could wait for the 10 years or so it takes to form a proven link and formulate a pharmaceutical product.
However it is clear that a world class nutritional supplement containing resveratrol as well as 77 other nutrients including vitamins, minerals and anti oxidants will get you well on the way to better health.
So whilst it is too early to take supplements of straight resveratrol it is well worth considering a fully formed and well researched course of dietary supplements as a daily habit.
The worlds best dietary supplements have 32 mg of resveratrol as well as those 77 other nutrients, all designed to work in harmony with each other.
Of course you could just drink red wine, but with from about 1 mg to 5 mg per glass you'd have to drink a lot.
Maybe you'd prevent diabetes, who knows, but at what cost? So there seems to be a strong link between resveratrol and diabetes prevention.
So it's a good decision to start yourself on the way to good health with the highest quality dieatry supplements available today, containing resveratrol.
