    • 1). Measure and mark one yard of flannel fabric into four equal pieces. Cut each piece out with sharp sewing scissors. You will wind up with four rectangles of the flannel.

    • 2). Fold each rectangle in two. This will leave you with three open sides that will require sewing. Use dressmaker pins to secure the two longer sides, leaving the smaller one open.

    • 3). Stitch along each of the pinned sides of your fabric, removing the pins as you go. Pick through whichever filling you have opted to use: dried beans, corn or rice. Make certain no bugs have infiltrated the package. If you find any, it's best to discard the entire package since you don't want to risk moths hatching inside your bed warmers.

    • 4). Fill each of the sewn pockets to about 3/4 full. Turn the edges of the remaining opening under just enough to create a small hem and stitch it closed. Trim any loose threads from the bed warmer.

    • 5). Place the bed warmer inside your microwave oven and heat on high temperature for about two minutes. Carefully remove it from the microwave and test for warmth. If it is too hot, you may wish to wrap it in a dish towel or hand towel. Place the bed warmer under your covers a few minutes before you plan to turn in. When you crawl under the covers, your bedding will be toasty warm.
