Tips for Lucid Dreaming - Waking Up and False Awakenings
Something that I consider an important tip for lucid dreaming is the waking up factor.
Why? Because you're going to be in a confused state on whether you're really awake seeing as you were just conscious in another dream but there might be a point where you awaken from one dream into another and this can be even more confusing for you, so what can you do at these points? Firstly with a standard dream you will normally wake up realising you were sleeping and you'll be able to shrug it off and get up (or go back to sleep) and continue on with your day.
However with a lucid dream things are different, many people wake up out of these in different manners, some don't realise that they're dreaming until they look in the mirror, go to the toilet or manage to do something that they haven't been able to and when they find this out they get so excited that they wake up and this is something that's obvious when you wake up from it.
Some people have explained going to sleep in a lucid dream and waking up back to normal life being one of the most confusing things because you would expect to wake back up in your own world however you're back to reality and you may not be able to notice this for a while.
Finally the other awakening is called a false awakening and will confuse you more than the other two if you haven't had one of these before.
What happens with this is that you wake up from one dream into another (yes kind of like an inception moment).
You can see how this is confusing as many people will go about continuing their normal day until something triggers the fact that they're actually not awake yet.
What To Do After Waking Up When it comes down to it I find that if you are practicing achieving lucidity then one of the things that you should do are reality checks.
These are small checks that you do to check whether you're sleeping or whether you've actually woken up back to reality.
There are numerous checks out there that you can do after getting out of bed, if you have a watch then simply checking the time, looking away and then checking again can be effective due to the brain not being able to keep it going, so if the time changes when you look back for the second time then you aren't awake yet.
Another one that you do is try pushing your fingers through your palm, obviously you shouldn't be able to achieve this while you're awake but on the other hand (no pun intended) if you do manage to achieve this then there is the chance that you are in fact still asleep.
As mentioned I think this is a very effective tip for lucid dreaming as it can help those that are new to it when they have to experience this.
So keep this in mind the next time that you decide to move onto your journey of lucidity.
