The Cast of "Suddenly Susan"
- Brooke Shields held the leading role as Susan in "Suddenly Susan." She starred in all the show's 93 episodes. Most of the show's plots revolved around naive Susan learning to live again as a single woman working in a big city. Shields has worked as a model, actor and spokeswoman in her career, gaining fame with her breakthrough roles in "Blue Lagoon" in 1980 and "Endless Love" in 1981. She's from New York City.
- Nestor Carbonell played Luis Rivera, Susan's co-worker and the magazine's photographer, in all 93 episodes of the sitcom. After "Suddenly Susan" was cancelled, he held brief roles in other shows, such as "Century City" on CBS. He has also starred as the mysterious Richard in the dramatic series "Lost" on NBC. In addition to acting, Carbonell also works as a writer and producer.
- Kathy Griffin played Susan's wacky co-worker and friend, Vicki Groener. Through Vicki, Griffin was allowed to showcase her comedic talent that helped define her acting career. Griffin has worked as a standup comedian and host. She stars in her own show, "My Life on the D List." Originally from Chicago, Griffin has won two Primetime Emmy Awards.
- The character of Jack Richmond was played by Judd Nelson. Richmond was Susan's boss on the show and the brother of her ex-fiancé. The Portland, Maine native starred in 71 episodes. Nelson first gained fame with his role as John Bender in "The Breakfast Club" in 1985. He also starred in "Fandango" with Kevin Costner and "St. Elmo's Fire" with Ally Sheedy.
- Todd Stites was played by David Strickland from Long Island, New York. Strickland was Susan's co-worker and the magazine's music critic. He has also starred in movies such as "Forces of Nature" with Sandra Bullock and Ben Affleck. Tragically, Strickland committed suicide in 1999 during the third season of "Suddenly Susan." Shields works with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in honor of her friend and colleague.
- Andrea Bendewald played Maddy Piper is 59 episodes of "Suddenly Susan." Piper acted as an investigative reporter for the magazine where Susan worked. Bendewald has also starred in movies, such as "Picture Perfect" and "One Night at McCool's." Since "Suddenly Susan," she's played minor roles in other sitcoms, including "Friends," "Without a Trace," "Two and a Half Men" and "Entourage."
