What You Need to Know:
State office has had some records since July 1870. Years from 1894 to 1920 are incomplete. Additional copies of birth records are $4.00 each. You can even apply online with no additional surcharge with a Visa, Mastercard or Discover Card! Copies are generally mailed within 5-7 working days after request is received. Money order should be made payable to ND Department of Health. Call or visit the Web site to verify current fees. Proof of identity is required for all individuals requesting a birth or death certificate.

Dates: From 1881; records from 1894-1920 are incomplete
Cost of copy: $7.00
Comments: Birth certificates in North Dakota are only available to the individual named on the record, the mother or father named on the record, or a legal representative. Immediate relatives of the individual (i.e. child, grandparent, grandchild) may also request a birth record if the individual is deceased.
