    • 1). Identify and treat any allergies by visiting your doctor, undergoing allergy testing and taking medication to reduce your allergic response to allergens in your environment. After heredity, allergies are the leading cause of circles under the eyes.

    • 2). Get plenty of sleep each night. Dark under eye circles may be caused by too little sleep or unrefreshing sleep. Avoid drinking alcohol or caffeinated drinks before going to bed at night, as these may interfere with the quality of your sleep.

    • 3). Use a humidifier or take medication to relieve nasal congestion. Nasal congestion dilates the blood vessels that run from your eyes to your nose. When these veins become dilated, they darken. This can produce dark circles and puffiness below the eyes.

    • 4). Apply a cold compress beneath your eyes for 10 to 20 minutes. Chilled teaspoons, cold tea bags or a bag of frozen vegetables will work just as well as store-bought ice packs.

    • 5). Elevate your head during sleep to prevent the pooling of fluid beneath your eyes. According to the Mayo Clinic, accumulated fluid may cause puffiness and dark circles.

    • 6). Hide your circles with concealers and other cosmetics designed to minimize the appearance of discoloration. Avoid using scented products, as these may irritate the tissue beneath your eyes and make your circles more noticeable.

    • 7). Speak with your doctor about medication or cosmetic surgery to get rid of circles under eyes. The Mayo Clinic states that laser treatments, chemical peels, surgery and injectable fillers can all minimize the appearance of circles.
