    • 1). Treat your ulcers with licorice. Recent studies have shown pharmaceutical medications containing licorice beneficial in treating peptic ulcers. DGL, a derivative of licorice that takes out glycyrrhizin before using it as a medication, is a much cheaper drug than Tagomet, Zantac and others, but works as well. The glycyrrhizin is removed as it can be a cause of high blood pressure.

    • 2). Take licorice to slow the progression of HIV into the AIDS virus. Recent studies have shown that licorice triggers the body's interferon, a natural chemical compound, that fights viruses. Then, HIV has less ability to destroy white blood cells, which is how it attacks the immune system.

    • 5). Ease symptoms of PMS. Licorice has been shown to balance hormones. Menstrual problems caused by high estrogen levels have been relieved with the use of licorice.

    • 6). Relieve respiratory symptoms associated with asthma and bronchitis. Although used since ancient times for these ailments as well as the average sore throat and cough, modern research has found the use legitimate.

    • 7). Support your adrenal glands with licorice. The compound glycyrrhizin was shown to support the health of adrenal glands which is necessary in combating stress. Recent studies have shown the use of this licorice compound in fighting chronic fatigue syndrome.
