Public Speaking Without Fear
Is public speaking without fear Possible? Only if you prepare yourself.
I can remember a time when I was not prepared.
I not only tried public speaking but I tried what I consider to be the HARDEST VERSION of public speaking.
Know what that was? Stand up comedy! Oh boy.
I figured you get up to the stage, tell a few jokes, make them laugh.
Then you are off.
Until I got on stage.
And froze.
And forgot all my jokes.
And had people staring at me uncomfortably, wishing I would go away.
I wished to go away.
That experience taught me a valuable lesson.
ALWAYS PREPARE.
I can remember the times in my life where I was about to have a SPECTACULAR FAILURE, and it did not matter the discipline.
Could have been sports.
Could have been a test.
Anything.
It all got down to preparation.
The better you know your subject matter, the more you practice, and the better PREPARED you are, the more you have a chance of delivering a speech without fear.
Is it the end all and be all cure to eliminating your fear? Of course not.
But when you know a subject cold and are really prepared to deliver it, you have less chance to be nervous and scared because there is a reservoir of knowledge that you can tap into.
My comedy example? I just did not prepare as I should have.
I figured it would be pretty easy and I really did not work as hard as I should have.
I learned a valuable lesson that preparation and knowledge go a long way in helping me calm myself before getting in front of people.
By the way, I COMPLETELY BOMBED on stage.
People were staring at me like I was an idiot (I guess I was that night).
I am still kicking.
You will too.
Just put some preparation into your arsenal and you too can be doing some public speaking without fear.
