Always ask where the locksmith company is based and do feel free to be suspicious if the locksmith is not based in your local area. When it comes to home security, you need someone who is trustworthy, reliable, local and courteous in the overall manner to which they work.

Always try and talk directly to the locksmith. Listen to how they answer your questions, do they sound as though they know what both you and they are talking about and can they go into detail as to how they work and how they can work for you. If they are vague or sound unprofessional then choose someone else and carry out this such research in a thorough and methodical way. Look on trade websites and see who is recommended in the local area and likewise look on trade review sites and see who is highly marked in terms of the way they work. Things to look out for include value for money, punctuality and the tidiness of the finish of their work.

Do whatever you can in an effort to get some idea of price. It's not always possible to give an accurate estimate without first seeing the job, however, the locksmiths should be able to tell you about any call out charges and fees appropriate to your enquiry. Do what you can to hire someone who can and will come out and survey your job and give you an onsite estimate without it costing you a penny. This should be a free and added extra so the customer has a fully understanding of the works they will be due to hire.
