How to Put a Mattress on the Floor
- 1). Clear the area where you want to put the mattress down. Measure the area of the floor so the mattress will fit into the available space.
- 2). Vacuum the floor where you intend to put the mattress. If the surface of the floor is something other than carpet, go over the floor again with a tack cloth to pick up any dust left by the vacuum cleaner.
- 3). Put the mattress in place on the clean floor and place sheets on the mattress as normal. Though you will need a fitted sheet in the proper size to fit your mattress, you can use a top sheet that is smaller than the mattress to keep the ends of the sheets from sitting on the floor. Keep your blankets off the floor by using a comforter or quilt made for a smaller mattress.
- 4). Lift the mattress off the floor occasionally to let the bottom side of the mattress air out. Lean the mattress against the wall for several hours before returning it to the floor. An ideal time to do this is when you change the sheets and the mattress is already bare. Take up the mattress from the floor at least once a week.
