Verkala Beach offers you the most stunningly beautiful scenery and peaceful atmosphere just like any other Indian beach. This beach allows you to have a breathtaking view of the Arabian Sea enclosed by long stretch of lush green cliffs. Within the cliff, there is a footpath that is bordered with quaint shops, coconut palms, hotels, beach shacks, and guest houses. At the bottom of this cliff, you will find the beach spread for miles together. This beach is located between Kollam and Alleppey, which is about an hour's journey if you hire a bus or a taxi from north Trivandrum.

This beach is very close by Verkala city and its railway station. It will just take 10 minutes for you to reach the beach from the city if opt to travel by charter bus rental services. There are a number of trains that stop at the Verkala city railway station. In case you are travelling by air, then from Trivandrum airport it will take around 4 hours for you to reach Verkala. You can also book online bus ticket in advance and travel without any last moment regrets.

Climate

The climate of this place is pretty humid. Usually, this place experiences heavy rainfall from northwest as well as southwest monsoons. During the months of June to August and thereafter from October to December it receives heavy rainfall.

The best time to visit this beach is from the end December till March. During this time of the year, the weather is relatively dry and the temperature here remains within 30 degree Celsius, which is quite pleasant and not too warm. During summer months April and May it is quite humid and temperature shoots up to 35 degree Celsius.

Tourist Attractions

If you want to unwind yourself, then Varkala is the right place to visit. You can take pleasure in watching the beautiful sunset while sitting on the soft sand and sipping on the cool coconut water. You'll see a number people at the beach in the evening relaxing by the beach, sipping on their beverages and watch the sun slowly sink down.

There is a mineral spring also that flows down the cliff top at southern end, which is supposed to have medicinal value. There are number of places you can opt for learning Yoga and getting our self pampered with some Aurvedic treatments and massages. You'll also find many shops selling jewelry and other local handicrafts. Temple festival of Janardhana Swami is held during the month of March, which is worth witnessing

Hotels

You can find all kinds of hotel accommodations to suit your pocket in Varkala. Some of the very luxurious hotels may cost you around $100 to $200 per night. A few others may charge you anywhere between $40 and $80, located at northern end of the cliff. At the southern side of this cliff you may get cottages rates ranging from $20 to $100 per night.

If you do not have sufficient budget, then you may want to go for resorts. These resorts may charge anything between $10 and $20 per night. Some of other accommodations are generally run by Indians, like fully furnished rooms on rent with high class facilities for $40 per night.
