Sanibel residents can't be too surprised to hear about the newest beach innovation:
solar powered public restrooms at Boat Ramp.  This is a city that loves its beaches and features some of the highest luxury in its Sanibel Island hotels.  Residents can find these new solar-powered public restrooms at 888 Sextant Drive, the home of the Sanibel Public Boat Ramp.

Local Sanibel Island residents can look forward to two water saving toilets, a solar powered electrical system and ten solar panels that are roof-mounted and self-adhesive.  The system puts out 680AC watts and takes up 80 square feet.

These solar-powered bathrooms in Sanibel Island, Florida also feature four outside amber LED lights, four inside fluorescent light fixtures with motion detectors, and four inside GFI outlets.  In addition, there are two hand dryers available in the sink areas.  This family-friendly amenity has facilities for the disabled, as well as diaper changing rooms for parents.  The city has also agreed to install a native vegetation buffer later this year.  The project was funded by the Tourist Development Council of the Lee County Visitor and Convention Bureau.

This is an exciting bit of news for Sanibel Island real estate.  This building, located on Sextant Drive, is sure to be a tourist attraction in its own right as it is situated in a popular neighborhood.  Nearby landmark locations to the bathroom site include Lighthouse Way, the Mariner Pointe Association, Limpet Dr. and Endless Summer Fishing Charters.  Sanibel Island restaurants may also get a boost, as there are dozens of quality establishments in the area.  For example, there is Gramma Dot's restaurant on North Yachtsman Drive as well as Lazy Flamingo restaurant? and the Lighthouse Café on Periwinkle Way.  Other restaurants of interest include Ellington's Jazz Bar and Restaurant? on East Gulf Drive and Pinocchio's Original Italian Ice Cream on Periwinkle Way.

Residents and county officials are predicting that this family-friendly feature will help to boost business and residential development in the near future.  The bathroom is fully capable of functioning on solar power alone thanks to superior technology involved LED and self adhesive solar panels.  In the meantime, excess electricity from the solar bathrooms will be sold back to the power grid, and visitors will find instant relief even walking amidst the hot Florida beaches.  Residents of Sanibel and Captiva Island shouldn't be surprised to find out that their favorite city is making great strides towards environmental activism.
