How to Create a Multilayer Stencil in Photoshop
- 1). Load the picture you want to convert into a stencil.
- 2). Locate the magic wand tool on the left-hand side of the application. If the wand is not visible, click and hold on the wand tool icon until a selection pops out to the right of the left-hand side tool box. Select the magic wand tool.
- 3). Use the mouse to point your magic wand tool over the edge of the picture. For example, if you are making your stencil from a photograph of a person, then you would point the tool at the edge of the person’s body.
- 4). Left-click the mouse. Carefully trace the contour of the object in the photograph you want to convert to a stencil.
- 5). Close the path of the magic wand around the object by finding the small circle that appears when the line meets its starting point. Click once. If you did this correctly, you will see that the contour of the image is highlighted or enveloped.
- 6). Now select the background and hit the Delete button.
- 7). Click on the eraser too, found in thetool box on the left side of the application interface. Clean up any areas that the magic wand could not remove. You do this by dragging the eraser tool around the screen and clicking on areas you want to remove.
- 8). Set the focus of the image you traced with the magic wand tool by selecting the black arrow tool and clicking on the image. It should still be highlighted. If it isn’t, retrace it with the magic wand tool.
- 9). Click on the “Effects” drop-down menu atop the application interface menu bar. Select “Grayscale” from the menu.
