Finding nutritious food is becoming increasingly difficult. In the grocery stores there are many products marked "healthy" or "natural", but that is usually just marketing. More people are eating processed food that are all about convenience and taste than nutrition. Even the so called fresh produce is grown with all kinds of chemicals and practices that many question. Not to mention the flavor of most produce doesn't come near to true organic fresh grown produce. If the flavor is not there, do you think the full nutrition is there too?

You can buy organic produce in some markets, but it is often at a greatly inflated price. And in my experience, often only marginally better than the traditional produce. If you want good quality fresh food at a reasonable price, you may have to grow it yourself. If you think this is impractical or too much work, maybe you should look into aquaponics.

Aquaponics has been taking both home and commercial gardening by storm. It is an elegant combination of hydroponics and aquaculture. It starts with growing fish, which is no more difficult than maintaining a common home aquarium. Instead of using a filter to remove and dispose of the fish waste products, this system uses plants to clean the wastes out of the water. This works because it just happens that these fish wastes are the nutrients that plants need.

With aquaponics, you can grow fish without any need to dispose of their wastes and it produce no waste water. And you can grow vegetables without the need to add any fertilizer. Once the system is established, the only things you need to regularly add to the system is fish food, plants seeds and a little water to replace what is lost through transpiration and evaporation.

It takes a little bit of work to get the system established and after that it mostly takes care of itself, aside from feeding the fish, checking PH levels and and a few other light maintenance details. Of course you have to do the planting and harvesting too, but that is the fun part and is very simple. Since there is no soil involved there is no digging.

This kind of garden can be located just about anywhere. It can be outdoors if your climate is favorable, in a greenhouse, in a garage or in your living room. People grow potted plants and have aquariums in their homes for decoration, so why not grow plants that produce food? You can take advantage of a large window that brings in plenty of sun, or provide artificial light. Since this system requires no soil, it doesn't matter if you live in an area with fertile soil or not. This can open up many areas to farming that would otherwise be unsuitable.

Growing an aquaponics garden can supply you with a low cost supply of the most fresh and nutritious food you can get. How can you get food that is more fresh than what you can pick out of your back yard or even your living room? This is a great way to make yourself food independent. Not only will you always know where your food is coming from, you will also have some of the most healthy food available.

You can soon be producing your own food in your own aquaponics garden by following the simple instructions in this aquaponics how to guide. Learn the easy way to set your system up and how to maintain and grow food for yourself for many years to come.
