How to Rig Fishing Bobbers for Catfish
- 1). Attach the top of the bobber to the fishing line. Note that one end of the bobber has a circular portion of plastic usually about 1/4 inch in length and the opposite end of the bobber is smooth. The top of the bobber is the end that has this 1/4-inch plastic piece. To attach the top of the bobber to the fishing line, press down on one side of this plastic piece. Doing so will cause a wire hook to appear in the center of this piece. Place this wire hook onto the fishing line, then release the plastic piece.
- 2). Slide the bobber to a position on the fishing line that allows the bait to suspend at the desired depth. This depth can be just a few inches or several feet, depending on where the catfish are feeding. The depth of the fishing line is measured from the bottom of the bobber to the fishing hook at the end of the fishing line.
- 3). Fasten the bottom of the bobber to the fishing line. When the desired depth has been chosen, press again on the plastic piece on the top of the bobber, but this time cover the entire plastic piece with a finger so that the metal hook is not revealed. Doing so will expose a second wire hook at the bottom of the bobber. Place this wire hook onto the fishing line, then release the plastic piece.
- 4). Attach a small slip-shot weight just underneath the bobber to secure the bobber into place. Using a slip-shot will prevent the bobber from sliding down the fishing line towards the hood when the bait is cast to the water. Place a single slip-shot weight under the bottom of the bobber so that the weight rests against the bobber. Firmly crimp the weight into place with a pair of needle-nose pliers.
