Question: Radon in ECO by Cosentino

I am looking for the best option for my new countertop, and came across with your article. Still undecided between Corian and recycled quartz ECO by Consentino, but still worried about the amount of radon in the last mentioned material. Do you know if the Eco line has a significant amount of radon on it?

Answer:

First of all, since the date of this article I have researched more about the presence of radon in the so-called worst offender: slab granite.

Even in granite, I've learned, this may have been more of a manufactured media scare than anything else. Might there be radon in granite? Yes. Might you have to be frightened of it? Probably not.

And like I say, that's the one you would most want to be worried about. Other types of countertop materials are much better in terms of radon.

ECO by Cosentino is produced from recycled materials such as porcelain, glass, mirror glass and ashes. It is also produced with as much as 25% (though likely far less) natural stone from Cosentino's own quarries.

So, the answer is no, ECO does not have a significant amount of radon in it. If you are worried about any radon at all, even trace amounts, then you should buy Corian, since it has no stone products in it at all.
