Fight Free Radicals

What is a free radical? You may have heard the words around and find yourself wondering what is all the buzz? I have to take you back to chemistry.
Atom, protron, and neutrons, yes we have to start with the basics.
It is an atomic structure.
It has a single electron or upaired that basically is looking for a home.
The unpaired radical is highly reactive creating a chemical reaction that is unstable.
The free radicals circulate through our body looking to grab onto cells.
Changing the structure of the cells there is damage to the cells, proteins, and DNA.
With the change of the cells, proteins, and DNA serious health problems can occur.
Air pollution, smoking, stress, and aging all contribute to the creation of free radicals.
Can the body fight this off? Normally the body is able to protect itself from the damaging effects but it antioxidants are not present or if the number of bad free radical production becomes excessive, damage can occur.
But what can be done.
Antioxidants work to fight the bad free radical production.
Antioxidants are nutrients such as vitamins including A, C, and E along with minerals, and enzymes that are capable of fighting the damaging, but normal, effects of the process of oxidation in bodily tissues and cells.
How do Antioxidants work? The first is breaking the chain or link in the molecular structure.
The second is preventing the free radical from binding to the healthy cells.
A chain-breaking antioxidant such as vitamins A, C and E, causes the stabilize free radicals or cause them to decay into harmless atomic structures.
A preventative antioxidant prevents the oxidation process.
Antioxidants can be found in your foods and supplements.
The best and main sources of antioxidants are healthy foods including fruits and vegetables.
Blueberries are probably the most well known antioxidant.
And of course we have all heard of the Acai berry.
Make sure to include legumes such as pinto beans and red kidney beans also.
Many of us fail to have a diet high in antioxidants especially when fruit is not in season.
Efforts should be made however to include the high antioxidant foods in your diet.
The other option can include antioxidant supplements.
All antioxidants are not created equal.
Choose an isotonic supplement.
Isotonic means the same pressure.
It resembles the same cell pressure as your body's blood and plasma.
Why this is important is that the body's work is reduced to achieve absorption.
The isotonic supplement will pass directly into the small intestine where it can be absorbed right away.
With an isotonic supplement there will be little nutrients lost maximizing the body's absorption.
That means no more vitamins in the city sewer system! If you want to fight free radicals make it a priority to provide your body with the best food and supplement.
