Grab Opportunities Available In Saint Jean Baptiste Catholic Church
If you have suffered the death of a significant person, whether spouse, parent, child, or friend, you may be interested in a bereavement support group for both men and women. This six-session support group will be offered Tuesdays from October 12th through November 30th. The group will be led by trained facilitators, who may or may not be a pastor from our parish, or from Saint Ignatius Loyola Church, where the group meetings will be held. Ask a Pastor at Saint Jean Baptiste Catholic Church for information, or Sister Kathryn at Saint Ignatius Loyola Church.
An exhibit at Ellis Island may be of interest also to many Catholic women. This exhibit called Women and Spirit: Catholic Sisters in America celebrates the spirit of Catholic sisters who welcomed so many immigrants and helped to serve them. The Leadership Conference of Women Religion is sponsoring this exhibit, which will run through January of 2011. Many of the pastor staff at Saint Jean Baptiste Catholic Church will be making a trek to catch this wonderful exhibit and share in the celebration of Catholic women everywhere. For more information, ask a pastor at the church office, or visit the web site at www.womenandspirit.org.
A trip is forming to travel to France to follow the footsteps of Saint Peter Julian Eymard, in celebration of the bicentennial of his birth and baptism. This trip will take place in April of next year, and will visit the important places in his life and ministry. The present Provincial Superior of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament in the United States will be in the pastor, leader, role for this tour and will offer ongoing commentary on Father Eymard. Talk to a pastor at our church office, or talk to Susan Work at the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament for cost information, or to send a deposit to hold your place on the tour. You will benefit much and learn a lot from the pastor Father Pelletier, and from the teachings of Father Eymard.
If you are more interested in music, the pastor of Music Ministries and Organist directs the music ministry. Saint Jean Baptiste Catholic Church has two choirs, The Parish Choir, which is composed of generous volunteers, and The Choir of Saint Jean Baptiste, which is composed of professional singers. The Pastor of Music Ministries supervises both of these choirs, and they are both complemented by excellent instrumentalists. Please ask to speak to the pastor in charge of music ministries through the church office at 212-288-5082.
Finally, if you are interested other service roles, there are several other liturgical ministries, such as usher, greeter, lector, or communion, that are looking for volunteer parishioners to serve. Please speak to the pastor in charge of coordinating the volunteers in these particular areas. You may contact any of these pastors through the Parish Office.
