How to Create a Text Reflection Effect Using Adobe Photoshop CS3
- 1). Open Photoshop and choose "File," then "New." Pick a size and resolution for your file and click "OK."
- 2). Choose a background color for your file. Click on the foreground color swatch. In the Color Picker dialog box, click on a color to use, then click "OK." Press the "Alt" and "Del" keys together to fill the "Background" layer with the color you chose.
- 3). Click on the "Horizontal Type Tool."
- 4). Go to the Options bar, choose a font, then pick a size and color for your type.
- 5). Click within the document and type out a word or brief phrase.
- 6). Select "Edit" and "Free Transform" to adjust the size and position of your text. Click and drag the handles on the corners of the bounding box to increase or decrease the size. Hold down the shift key to constrain the proportions of the text. Click within the Free Transform bounding box and then drag to move the text. Double-click inside the box to apply the transformation when you are finished.
- 7). Click on the layer with your text in the Layers panel and then duplicate it by dragging it to the New Layer icon at the bottom of the Layers panel. The new layer icon resembles a sheet of paper with a folded bottom corner.
- 8). Choose "Edit," "Transform" and "Flip Vertical."
- 9). Click on the "MoveTool." Hold down the "Shift" key, then click and drag the duplicate text below the original type. Position the type so the bottoms of the two layers are slightly touching.
- 10
Click on the Layer Mask icon at the bottom of the Layers panel. Look for the icon that is a gray square with a white circle in the center. - 11
Select the "Gradient" tool and click on the "Gradient Sample" in the Options bar. Choose the black and white gradient from the menu. - 12
Press the "Shift" key, and then click with the Gradient Tool at the bottom of the reversed text. While clicking, drag the tool up to the top of the text. The black portion of the gradient causes the text to fade, creating the illusion of a reflection.
