How to Make Candle Holders Out of Jars
- 1). Clean the jar thoroughly to remove any remaining food residue.
- 2). Paint the outside of the jar with glass paint you can purchase at any craft store if you want to add a basic wash of translucent color.
- 3). Apply tissue paper decoupage to the outside of the jar if you want to create a variety of translucent colors. Simply mix one part clear-drying craft glue with one part water and apply to the jar with a foam brush. Cut or tear small pieces of tissue paper and stick onto the jar. Add another layer of the water-glue mixture over the tissue paper and let dry for several hours.
- 4). Apply craft glue in different letters or designs to the jar and sprinkle with glitter if you want to create a sparkly candle holder. This method is fun for kids to do.
- 5). Apply stickers or glue an image cut from an old holiday card to the outside of the jar for a whimsical design.
- 6). To create a hanging candle holder, cut one piece of wire slightly larger than the diameter of the jar and wrap it around the neck of the jar. Cut a longer piece of wire, 1 to 2 feet long, and use needle-nose pliers to wrap each end around opposite sides of the wire at the neck of the jar.
- 7). Place a tea light candle inside the jar.
