What Is the Fan Used for in a Fireplace?
- A heatilator can be a series of metal tubes that sit inside the firebox of a fireplace and act like a log holder or it can be incorporated into the outside of the firebox. It is comprised of an inlet and an outlet duct connected by metal tubes. The metal heats and helps conduct heat into the room instead of going up the chimney.
- Fireplace blower fans are often added after construction by the homeowner to make the fireplace a more efficient heater. By adding a fan (a.k.a., blower) to a heatilator, you can improve its performance by increasing the heat transfer from the metal to the room.
- In addition to circulating the heat out from a fireplace, the fan also helps to circulate the air in the room. Often in a room with a fireplace, it will be hot near the fireplace and cold not too far away. By adding a fan, the air in the room gets circulated and the heat will be more evenly distributed.
