    • 1). Check possible bat roosting sites in and around your home, for example carports, window shutters, porch roofs, sheds, attics, cellars and garages. Look for signs of friction caused by the bats' movement: loose bricks, loose wood paneling, rub marks such as sticky yellowish brown patches with short black wiry bat hairs on them.

    • 2). Look for bat droppings around these roosting sites. Bat droppings are crumbly, and elongated and have segments and will have pieces of insects in them. Such droppings will give off a pungent, acrid smell.

    • 3). Look for signs of bat urine on or around these roosting sites. Bat urine crystallizes rapidly, leaving surfaces with white chalky sheen.

    • 4). Look for scratch marks on walls, eaves and other roosting sites.
