Having had your tummy tuck surgery its important when you get home to recover you take it easy and follow your surgeon's instructions to the letter.
That way you will make your tummy tuck recovery as quick and painless as possible.
Take your prescribed medications as directed by your surgeon.
Do not mix any alcoholic beverage with any of your medications.
You should refrain from taking any aspirin or any other form of medication that contains aspirin for up to two weeks after your surgery, or unless otherwise advised by your surgeon.
It's also very important that you do not smoke or be close to somebody who is smoking during your recovery.
This will help to prevent wound break down or tissue death, which can lead to skin necrosis.
This is one of the main complications that smokers are known to be susceptible to.
If your surgeon has prescribed you a course of antibiotics make sure that you fully complete the course and take them as he suggested.
During your first week or so you should stay in a bent position at all times.
This will be very uncomfortable at first, but it is important for you not too stretch your stomach area too early.
It is also important that when you start to walk, that you do so, in a bent forward crouched position.
Bending at the hips, you should continue this until your doctor or surgeon gives you the OK to straighten up.
You will also have to sleep in this position, and no doubt you will find this position very uncomfortable especially at night.
To relieve the discomfort and to help you sleep well, it may be better for you to sleep in a recliner chair.
This will help you to stay in this crouched like position while you sleep.
If this does not work for you another way which you could try, is to sleep flat on your back in bed.
With your legs slightly elevated, you can achieve this by putting a couple of pillows under your head and one or two pillows under your knees.
Keeping your legs elevated like this will take the pressure off your legs and help to relieve any back pain or strain.
The idea behind maintaining this crouched flexed position is to minimize any movement around the area that you had your surgery and help to prevent any problems developing.
If you don't carry out the instructions from your surgeon it's possible that you could develop wound separation or skin loss because of too much tension around the site of the surgery.
