How to Boost Sperm Count After Chemotherapy
- 1). Consult your doctor. He will examine you and possibly run tests to determine if the chemotherapy damaged your reproductive organs in any way. If so, certain medications and procedures may be able to correct the issue and increase your sperm count.
- 2). Refrain from unhealthy activities that affect sperm count, including illegal drugs, cigarettes and excessive use of alcohol.
- 3). Keep your testicles cool. Stay away from hot tubs and saunas. Wear loose-fitting clothing; boxer shorts are a better option than tighter underwear. When using your laptop, do not place it directly in your lap, but rather on a table or book.
- 4). Watch your weight. Excess body weight can lower sperm count. Eat a diet rich in whole, unprocessed foods---in essence, plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein sources. Cut back on saturated fats found in animal products and sugary foods like cake, ice cream and cookies.
- 5). Experiment with alternative therapies. According to Andrew Weil, an expert on alternative medicine, acupuncture has been shown to increase sperm count. Dr. Weil also suggests trying traditional chinese medicine (TCM), which is well-known for its wide variety of fertility treatments. Seek out a licensed practitioner who can design an effective treatment regimen specifically for you.
