Taking a premade list to the grocery store is a chore of the past for most grocery shoppers today. Between keeping lists on phones, tablets, and mini computers that are everywhere, writing a paper list does not seem feasible anymore. This might change when you start wanting to cook Paleo diet recipes.

I am mentioning this ancient art form of list making because you may need to bring one when you decide to embark on a new Paleo recipe. It is simple to drool over Paleo lunch recipes, or Paleo appetizers to serve at a party, but when it comes time to remember how to make those dishes€"you will want your notepad. Buying and cooking new ingredients can be fun, exciting, and rewarding.

For the average person€"one who ate at McFastFood a few times a month, and is now trying to pack more healthy lunches€"grocery shopping for Paleo diet recipes is a new experience. Your list of €what to cook with€ got longer, and includes more vegetables, proteins, grain-like products, and fruits than you ever knew existed. For the first few shopping trips, be prepared to buy something you have never seen before.
This means you will want to start looking at your recipes earlier, noting any special ingredients, and familiarizing yourself with how to use them. Then, when it comes time to make the trip to the store, you are fully prepared and know what you are looking for and what you are going to do with it.
For example, when making a new breakfast wrap out of plantains€"you have to know what a plantain is, and how you can turn that banana looking fruit into a wrap. Otherwise, you might spend all day looking for plantain flour, or plantain wraps at the store and be disappointed and hungry when you get home.
A hungry Paleo dieter is a frightful sight!
Starting to make things yourself instead of buying everything turns into a fun project in the kitchen. This aspect of cooking in vs. dining out is amplified when you are on the Paleo diet and are trying to find delicious recipes that will please your tummy and your goals for cutting out preservatives.

Where to shop?
While local grocery stores can be fine, organic stores are better. The Paleo diet is all about eating fresh, whole, raw, lean, clean, and organic. When you go to the grocery store, you have to shop on the perimeters mainly. Going into the middle aisles will bog your cart down lots of no no's such as grains, gluten, preservatives, chemicals, and other additives are lurking in so many foods today.
Shopping in the interior of the grocery store is a very quick way to get unhealthy.
You have to eat lots of fruits, vegetables, and meats. You will instead begin to load your cart with lean meats and sweet meats, rare cuts, and delicacies. You will notice three kinds of lettuce, extra Brussels sprouts, and an influx in peppers. Your palate will be both cleansed and revitalized. Enjoy this time, and start to enjoy the new foods so that when you go to a specialty store, the options they have will be all that more exciting to you. You may have only ever been able to find one type of flax before, now there are options?!
