How to Catch Spanish Sardines
- 1). Attach the end of the main fishing line to the barrel swivel tied to the end of the Sabiki rig with a Uni knot. Moisten the knot before pulling tight and then trim excess line from the free end of the knot with scissors.
- 2). Select an egg-shaped casting weight with a brass wire loop attached to connect to the end of the Sabiki rig. Snap the weight securely in place using the swivel snap tied to the end of the rig. Choose a weight in the 1- to 3-oz. range based on conditions and personal preference.
- 3). Chum the water where you will be fishing for Spanish sardines. Use ground dry dog food, shrimp pieces or other attractant to draw Spanish sardines to the area.
- 4). Drop the Sabiki rig into the water and allow the weight at the bottom of the rig to take the rig with multiple gold hooks down.
- 5). Raise the Sabiki rig up and down, causing the gold hooks to flash in the water. Continue jigging the Sabiki rig up and down to catch up to several Spanish sardines at a time. Place the sardines in a livewell for fishing.
