Dimensions and Weight

• When compared to its predecessor, the fifth generation nano did not offer strikingly noticeable differences at first glance. However, the 5G nano had a slightly larger screen: 2.2 inches on the diagonal as opposed to 2 inches. This may not seem like much, but it gave the display screen a larger, easier-to-read font and a higher resolution for album cover art and video. It measured 3.6 by 1.5 by 0.2 inches and weighed 1.3 ounces.
  
  

Exterior

• With a shinier gloss than its predecessor, the 5G iPod nano came in black, blue, green, orange, pink, purple, red, silver and yellow. Its headphone jack was on the left of the dock connector on the bottom of the device; previous generations had the jack on the right. The click wheel was shifted slightly farther toward the bottom to make room for the larger screen, and the 5G sported a video camera lens on the back.
  
  

Video

• One of the most anticipated additions to the 5G iPod nano was its ability to take video. Though the quality of the video was hardly top-notch, Apple did not intend the nano to be a replacement for high-performance camcorders; rather, the company designed the device to serve as a pocket video recorder for unexpected moments when quality isn't a priority. Users could also choose from 15 special effects for their videos, though the effects could not be removed once the video was recorded.
  
  

VoiceOver and Radio

• While the 4G iPod nano introduced the Spoken Menu feature for the visually impaired, the 5G nano added to handicap accessibility -- and drivers' safety -- by adding VoiceOver, a system which spoke the title, artist and album of the song currently playing. The 5G also added FM radio capability, which allowed the device to pick up radio waves from almost any region. It also allowed radio listeners to pause and rewind up to 15 minutes of radio programs.
