The holidays are fast approaching and that means time for favorite family traditions.
Most of these traditions revolve around eating and meals, so what are the good and bad when it comes to favorite dishes.
Did you know that the average holiday meal contains 4,000 calories? That is an astonishing number and nearly twice the number of calories most of the population should consume in any given day.
With so many meals being consumed this time of year and with little exercise devoted to burning these calories, it is no wonder that there is much weight gain.
So how can you avoid falling victim to excessive calories this holiday season? Follow the following weight loss tips.
1.
Watch what you drink.
Drinks, especially holiday drinks are a hidden source of calories.
Approximately 20-25 percent of daily caloric intake is from beverages.
The holiday season is the biggest culprit for hidden calories.
Many dessert drinks with alcohol and cream certainly add to the waistline, especially drinks like eggnog which can contain approximately 400 calories per cup! 2.
Stay hydrated.
This is often overlooked, but often times thirst can be confused with hunger.
When you feel like you are famished, try reaching for a thirst quenching drink.
Water is certainly the best choice.
Stay away from beverages such as alcohol and soda which can leave you extra dehydrated.
3.
Get enough sleep.
Recent research shows that not getting enough sleep can have a bad influence on the waistline.
Missing out on sleep makes our alertness sluggish and lethargic, as can be seen through sleep deprivation and reaction time.
Lack of sleep can also make our metabolism slow too.
4.
Eat before going to parties.
If temptation of eating too much at a party is too great, it is wise to eat a small meal before going to the party.
Loading up on healthy foods will make you less likely to overeat.
Appetite suppressants such as hoodia gordonii are also helpful in preventing overeating.
5.
Plan.
Plan your eating agenda before going out.
You should not have to deprive yourself of special treats at Christmas time however you should not over indulge either.
Allowing a special treat should be part of the holidays, but you should plan for it instead of regretting it later.
