    Food Group Collage

    • Hand out old cooking magazines, grocery advertisements or newspapers and ask the students to cut out foods from each of the four food groups. Then ask them to glue the foods to a piece of paper and write short descriptive phrases about the characteristics of each food and what it does for the human body. This enjoyable activity allows the students to work independently and learn about nutrition.

    Salad Bowl

    • Ask each student to choose a vegetable and color it. Depending on the age of the student, they can either cut it out themselves or you can cut it out for them. Put the cut-out vegetables on the class bulletin board with their name written next to their vegetable. Ask the students to learn one fact about the vegetable they chose and present it to the class.

    Egg Decoration

    • Decorating eggs doesn't have to be just for Easter. Bring in hard-boiled eggs and ask the children to decorate them however they choose, using egg dyes, markers or paper and glue. This provides the teacher with an excellent opportunity to talk about proteins and the body's uses for protein.

    Favorite Food

    • Ask each of the children to draw their favorite foods. After they have done so, ask them to talk about the food groups that make up their favorite foods and the health benefits of their foods.

    Recipe Book

    • Hand out a different simple recipe to each child and ask the students to illustrate it. They can draw happy people eating the food or ingredients that go into the food. After they finish, bind the pages together and show them the class recipe book. Scan all the pages and present the children with CDs with the recipe book on them or create copies of the pages, bind them and return a recipe book to each child.
