    Benefits

    • Internet Options helps protect your computer from malicious parasites by preventing access to dangerous websites. With the daily rise in threats, configuring the options ensures that malicious files are detected before they download onto your computer. Internet Options also protects personal information such as passwords and from websites that use tracking cookies and prevents attackers from following your browsing tendencies. They also reduce clutter caused by browser cache to help speed up page loads. Internet Options helps configure certificates to allow trusted websites to run on your computer.

    Features

    • Internet Options allow you to clear your browser's cache with the click of one button. Cache includes temporary files, cookies and saved passwords which should be cleared to avoid falling into the wrong hands. You can also set parental guidance using the Content Advisor program to monitor what your children have access to on the Internet. Internet Options also enables you to adjust ActiveX and Java settings so your browser can display media content properly. The "Turn-on Pop-up Blocker" is a vital tool that blocks annoying pop-up advertisements that slow browser speed.

    Identification

    • The Internet Options window is outlined with a default blue on the top and and titled "Internet Options." Internet Options include seven tabs on the top where you can adjust different settings for your Internet Explorer browser. These include the General, Security, Privacy, Content, Connections, Programs and the Advanced tab which are all lined up in the sequence provided. Internet Options can be accessed from the control panel or on the tools menu located on the top of your web browser.

    Misconceptions

    • Internet Options do not improve your connection speed. If you have a slow connection speed such as dial-up, improving your connection speed can only be accomplished by upgrading to faster connection speeds such as cable or DSL. Internet Options do not prevent viruses, Trojans and Spyware. Although they can limit intrusions from unknown networks, you still need to install an Antivirus program and Spyware removal tool to protect your computer from malicious activity.

    Warning

    • Do not adjust your Internet Options if you do not know how. If you are unsure of the proper settings, it is always advisable to select the "Default" settings. Do not set the "Block Cookies" option too high, otherwise you will not be able to access many websites that require cookies. Keep your password in a safe place if you configured the Content Advisor tool to block questionable material. Content Advisor does not have a password recall feature, so it is advisable to select a password you can easily remember. Do not set the pop-up blocker too high because you won't be able to access certain websites that require pop-ups. It is always recommended that you set it at the "Medium" level.
