Getting your pharmacy tech certification is the best way to get your start in a health care career.
This in demand job can lead to several employment opportunities.
Your skills will be welcome in pharmacies, hospitals, research labs, and even in some doctors offices.
It might take some work to get your education complete, but once you have it will be well worth it.
What Does A Pharmacy Tech Do? As a pharmacy technician your day to day responsibilities could include customer service, fielding calls from doctors and nurses, assisting the pharmacist by preparing prescriptions, handling office duties such as filing paperwork and restocking supplies.
As stated before, there are a lot of places you can be employed and the duties will vary from place to place.
The best thing to do is study and be prepared for all opportunities.
Pharmacist Technician Training You should expect to train for your new career for approximately two years if you wish to obtain a degree in the process.
There are also diploma programs that are significantly shorter.
But remember, when you are competing with other candidates, you want to appear to be the most qualified.
A diploma program might get you there quicker, but having a degree is going to benefit you long term as far as job offers and salaries go.
The first thing you need to do is locate schools in your area and apply for admission.
You should also find out if you can qualify for financial aid to assist with the cost of your education.
If the program is accredited you should at least be able to apply for aid.
Once accepted into the program you may be required to sit with a counselor to review your previous education and discuss the classes you will need going forward.
You will be expected to complete coursework related to biology, chemistry, pharmacology, and math.
In addition to that there are general college courses you will be expected to pass to earn your degree.
These courses are generally math, english, history, and electives.
Once you have completed your program and earned your diploma or degree you should schedule your pharmacy technician exam and obtain your certification.
This certification may not be required in your state, but again it shows potential employees that you are a serious candidate.
