    • 1). Hold down the "Sleep/Wake" button, which is at the top of the iTouch. A red "Slide to power off" switch shows up on the screen. Slide the switch from left to right. The iTouch turns off.

    • 2). Connect the iTouch's USB cable to the computer.

    • 3). Open iTunes on the computer.

    • 4). Hold down the "Home" button at the bottom of the iTouch.

    • 5). Connect the iTouch with the opposite end of the device's cord. Look at the iTouch's screen. If you see a "red battery" icon, release the "Home" button and allow the device to charge for 10 minutes. Then disconnect the iTouch from the cord and repeat Steps 1 through 5. Otherwise, proceed to Step 6.

    • 6). Release the "Home" button on the iTouch after the "Connect to iTunes" screen appears on the iTouch. A "Recovery Mode" dialog box opens inside of iTunes. Click "OK" in that box.

    • 7). Click the iTouch selection underneath the "Devices" option, which is inside the Source Pane. Then click the "Summary" tab that is inside of the center iTunes window.

    • 8). Click the "Restore" button that's in the middle of iTunes. A "Restore" dialog box appears. Click "Restore" inside the box. Follow the instructions that appear in iTunes, as they vary based upon generation of iPod and your wishes (for example, restoring the iPod using a backup file for that device).
