The Move From Vegetarian To Vegan

Making the transition from vegetarian to vegan at first glance is seemingly easy. However, once you take it on you soon realize the difficulty. Up to this point giving up certain things like meat has probably not been that difficult, even less if you were first a pesco-vegetarian and kept fish in your diet. However, many discover that taking the next step to vegan is not as easy as it may seem.

As a vegan, and at times even as a vegetarian, you're faced with a great deal of adversity. People look at you like you're from another planet, including family and close friends. Many see you as an inconvenience. Moreover, if you don't know any other vegans life can be quite lonely and you often second guess yourself. Yet, aside from all of that the most difficult part for many is that when you decide to take this leap you discover that dairy is an ingredient that is in more of the foods that you eat than you initially imagined. This forces you to make several dietary changes. You have to change your butter. You can no longer use eggs when baking and let's not even talk about the pain of eliminating cheese. So much for pizza, mac and cheese or the shredded cheese that once tasted so good on your salad. You now realize that this was a bigger step than you anticipated.

However, despite your reservations you're confident that you can do this. So with a little research and some creativity you transform this part of your journey into a fantastic voyage. In fact, this comes to be the most enjoyable part of all. You're now inspired to become more educated about the vegan lifestyle. You're motivated to make a stronger commitment to your decision to go "all the way." No more making out for you, this is about to be a home run. Most importantly though, during this phase you begin to feel invincible because you feel that if you can succeed at being vegan in a meat-addicted society, you can do anything. You now have pride in who you have become and being an ethical eater has given you a clearer conscious.

Eventually, you grow to see that this change has opened up a whole new world for you and now you're looking forward to what's ahead. Who knows you may go even further with this thing and perhaps venture going raw.
