How to Change a Drive in DOS
- 1). Determine the letter name of the drive you wish to become the active drive. Floppy disk drives are typically labeled as the "A:" drive or the "B:" drive. The hard drive is typically labeled as the "C:" drive, while CD-ROM drives are usually labeled as the "D:" drive.
- 2). Type the drive name in the DOS prompt. For example, to change to the floppy disk, type "A:" (without the quotes) and press the "Enter" key.
- 3). Type "dir/w" (without the quotes) to list the contents of the active drive. Do this to ensure that you have changed to the proper drive.
