How to Install XP on a DC5750
- 1). Insert the Windows Vista CD and turn on your computer. You will be prompted to "Press any key to boot from CD." Once you have done so, you will be in the "Vista" setup page.
- 2). Click "Install Now."
- 3). Select "Install Vista" when asked if you want to repair or freshly install "Vista."
- 4). Ignore the request for a product key and click "Next."
- 5). Choose to perform a "custom installation." At this point, you will be asked which hard drive you want to install to. Be sure to select the hard drive you have "Vista" installed on and then select the option to format the hard drive.
- 6). Remove the Vista disc from your computer once it finishes formatting the hard drive.
- 7). Reboot the computer by pressing the hard reboot button on the front of your computer.
- 8). Insert the Windows XP disc. You will be prompted to press any key to boot from the CD. Do so.
- 9). Select "Install Windows XP."
- 10
Press the "F8" key when asked to agree to the license terms. - 11
Select your hard drive partition that was formatted using your Vista disc as the place to install XP. - 12
Choose to reformat the hard drive using Windows XP. You should generally choose NTFS formatting, however you can use FAT32 as well if you have a reason to do so. This is necessary because of a bug in Windows Vista which will make the drive unusable when attempting to install Windows XP unless it is first reformatted using XP. - 13
Enter the information requested on screen, including region and language, your name and the product key from your XP certificate of authenticity. - 14
Enter the remaining information required, including things like a computer name, and continue following the installation prompts. (You can usually just click "Next.") Once Windows XP installation has completed, remove the Windows XP disc.
