How to Make Themed Homemade Birthday Cakes
- 1). Decide on the shape in which you want to make the cake. Use different sizes and shapes of baking pans to achieve the shape you desire. For instance, if you want to make a cat-shaped cake, you will need one large circular pan for the cat's body, one smaller circular pan for the cat's head, and one small oblong pan for the cat's tail.
- 2). Make the cake according to the recipe, filling all of the pans you have prepared. Depending on the size of your cake and how many shapes it needs, you may have to double the recipe.
- 3). Arrange the baked cakes into the shape that you want. They may be arranged next to each other or on top of each other. For a cat-shaped cake, arrange the smaller circular cake right next to the large circular cake and arrange the oblong cake next to the bottom of the large circular cake.
- 4). Make vanilla frosting according to your recipe. Decide what color you want the cake to be and mix food coloring into the frosting to come up with the color you'd like. Spread the frosting all over the top and sides of the cake, using the frosting as a glue to connect the different shapes together.
- 5). Use sprinkles and candies to add detail to the cake. Stick them on the top and sides of the cake in whatever design you want. For a cat cake, you can use gumdrops for the eyes and nose and licorice for the mouth and whiskers.
- 6). Use stencils to make sure the sprinkles come out in the shape that you want. Cut out a stencil in the shape you want from a piece of paper. Lay the stencil on top of the cake and pour the sprinkles over it. Remove the stencil once the sprinkles have been applied.
