Bed Wetting Help
- Plastic and vinyl sheets are sold at many different home and bedding stores which can protect mattresses. If the mattress is peed on, it should be stripped of all sheets and allowed to air dry or dried with a hair dryer.
- You can ask children who are wetting the bed to hold their peeing during the day for a few extra minutes whenever they have to go to the bathroom. This should be lengthened over time, stretching to hours of waiting to urinate. This will train the child not to go at the first pressing feeling and will help him sleep through the night, especially when you make sure he goes to the bathroom before going to bed.
- If the situation persists, night lifting is a good option to ensure your child doesn't continue to wet the bed every night. This entails you going into his room periodically over the course of the night and waking him up to use the bathroom. Unfortunately this wears on you and your child, as it throws off sleeping patterns. However, this should ultimately teach your child to wake up on his own, empty his bladder and then return to bed.
