Natural Bacterial Vaginosis Treatments

You may well wonder why natural bacterial vaginosis treatments should be an option worth considering when your doctor could give you antibiotics.
Indeed, you could walk into any pharmacy and buy a cream or lotion which, it is claimed, will help.
Bacterial vaginosis is a condition caused by an overgrowth of harmful bacteria in the vagina which develops as a result in a shift from the normally acidic pH level to alkaline.
This, in turn, supports the growth of harmful bacteria which then causes the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis.
The role of antibiotics is to kill bacteria.
Indeed, "Antibiotic" stands for "anti-life".
Unfortunately, antibiotics cannot distinguish between good and bad bacteria, so all bacteria in the vagina is killed off, including the beneficial bacteria which is responsible for the health of the vagina.
This means that once bacteria naturally begins to repopulate the vagina, the harmful bacteria reproduces faster than the good bacteria so the symptoms begin again.
This is one of the reasons why over 70% of women who take antibiotics for BV will have a repeat attack within weeks This isn't the end of the story though.
Although by killing off the bacteria, antibiotics can undoubtedly bring some symptomatic relief, just as creams and lotions can, they do not address the root cause.
A recurrence of the infection for women taking antibiotics is not only due to the fact that all bacteria is eradicated, but the fact that all they do is kill bacteria-not address the underlying cause.
Clearly, unless you do something to remove the root cause, the symptoms will start up again.
Natural bacterial vaginosis treatments can give both symptomatic relief and address the root causes.
Some common causes of BV include overwashing (which depletes the natural, healthy lubricants of the vagina), using harsh, perfumed products around the vagina, a new sexual partner, douching and sometimes just being under the weather.
As there are many more causes, any good BV treatments need to use a multifaceted approach which effectively "mops up" all the possible causes.
To get you on the road to recovery, there are two excellent natural bacterial vaginosis treatments which will give some relief.
Firstly, try adding a few drops of tea tree oil to a shallow bath as this will help to kill off harmful bacteria.
You can also try introducing probiotic yogurt into the vagina via a tampon.
The live bacteria in this yogurt can help to replenish depleted supplies.
Other simple remedies include washing no more than twice daily, using unperfumed products and always using a condom for intercourse, which you should ideally avoid when the symptoms are particularly bad.
