How to Replace A Swimming Pool Pump
- 1). Unplug the current pool pump. Close the water valves on the pool skimmer and the pool filter.
- 2). Unhook the current pool pump by unscrewing the hose clamp on the intake pool hose that connects the pool skimmer to the pool pump.
- 3). Disconnect the pool pump from the pool filter by unscrewing the hose clamp that holds the hose onto the pool pump. Your system may have a union that connects the pump to the filter. If so, use a wrench to unscrew the unit in order to disconnect the pump.
- 4). Discard the old pool pump. Be sure to follow your counties regulations with discarding machinery.
- 5). Inspect the area where the pool pump is going to be sitting. Make sure it's a level area. If the area is not level, level it using paving stones.
- 6). Install the new pump by attaching the skimmer pool hose to the pump's intake hose area. Secure the hose to the pump with a hose clamp and tighten the clamp with a screwdriver.
- 7). Attach the hose that connects the pool pump and the pool filter. Tighten the hose clamp. If you are using a newer system, a connector unit will connect the pump and filter. Tighten the connector with a wrench. Your pump is now installed and ready for priming and use.
