    • 1). Purchase enough pre-shirred fabric to wrap around the widest part of your body plus an additional 1/8 yard. Pre-shirred fabric is shirred or ruched along the top and plain at the bottom.

    • 2). Wrap the fabric around your body with the right side of the fabric against your skin, using the shirred portion to cover your bust. The plain fabric forms the skirt of your babydoll dress. Pin the dress in place until you are happy with the fit and the top is snug enough that it does not easily slip off and expose your body.

    • 3). Remove the dress carefully by sliding it down your body. The shirred section of the fabric contains elastic so it will stretch to make removal possible without removing any pins.

    • 4). Sew the dress closed with one seam extending from the top to the bottom. Use the pins as a reference to make sure that the finished dress will fit.

    • 5). Cut two, two-foot long pieces of double-fold bias tape to use as straps to prevent the top of the babydoll dress from slipping down, if desired. Sew one end of each strap to the top of the dress at the sides of your bust. Leave the opposite ends of the straps free. Tie the free ends of the straps together at the back of your neck to hold it in place.
