How to Rig Circle Hooks for a Shark
- 1). Cut a length of 400-pound-test steel leader wire with a pair of wire cutters. Choose an 18 to 24-inch length of leader or longer based on personal preference and fishing conditions.
- 2). Slide a wire crimp onto one end of the steel leader. Push the crimp 6 to 8 inches up the wire.
- 3). Feed the end of the wire through the eye of a 10/0 to 20/0 circle hook. Slide the hook 2 to 3 inches up the wire.
- 4). Hold the free end of the wire beside the main wire length. Slide the crimp down onto the free end of the wire. Allow at least 1/2 inch of the free end of the wire to extend from the crimp.
- 5). Crimp, or mash, the crimp flat against the free end and main wire length with a pair of pliers or a crimp tool.
- 6). Slide a wire crimp onto the opposite end of the leader wire. Feed the free end of the wire through the eye of a barrel swivel. Push the swivel 6 inches up the wire and turn the free end of the wire back beside the main wire length.
- 7). Slide the crimp down over the free end of the wire so that 1/2 inch of the wire extends beyond the crimp. Use a crimp tool to mash the crimp against the free end and the main wire length to hold the swivel securely in place.
