Although not as well-known as popular browsers--such as Internet Explorer and Firefox--Safari is one of the most efficient and used Internet browsers in educational institutes. • Safari has been the installed browser on Macintosh operating systems since 2003. Because of this, Mac users have become adept at using Safari. This familiarity makes Safari a more advantageous Internet browser for Mac users. Safari did not become available for Windows users until 2007, which is the reason that other browsers are more commonly used on Windows operating systems.

• An advantage that helps Safari to be very simple to use--especially for those that are not technical--is the lack of customization that Safari allows. Because you cannot change the Safari browser, the browser will operate similarly, no matter what computer you are on. Also, just like other browsers, Safari allows you to open tabs, ensuring that you do not need to open multiple instances of the browser to look at multiple web pages. • Newer versions of Safari offer added features, such as the Top Sites feature that allows you to easily choose from your favorite websites. Safari tracks your most visited websites and organizes them, so that every time you open the Safari browser, up to 24 thumbnails of websites are available--making Internet browsing more efficient.
  
  Safari also features advanced history searches that allow visual page representations of the websites that you visited, which makes history browsing simpler. Safari 4 also introduced numerous developer tools that allow developers to view the structure of any web page visited.
