How to Control Outdoor Garbage Odor Naturally
- 1). Place your garbage can in a cool, shaded location. Do not put your garbage can in direct sunlight, which encourages decomposition and odors.
- 2). Dilute vinegar with water and pour or spray inside your garbage can and on your garbage can lid. Allow your can to dry completely.
- 3). Line the bottom of your garbage can with newspaper and sprinkle it with baking soda. This absorbs liquids and neutralizes odor.
- 4). Compost your food scraps or use a garbage disposal, if possible. Wrap remaining food scraps in paper bags or newspaper before putting them in the trash.
- 5). Cover food scraps with shredded paper. This absorbs moisture and soaks up offending odors.
- 6). Seal pet waste, sanitary waste or any wet garbage in plastic bags before putting it in the trash can.
- 7). Tie garbage bags tightly and keep your garbage can lid tightly closed at all times.
