How to Erase a Compact Flash Memory Card
- 1). Place the Compact Flash card reader into an available USB port on your computer.
- 2). Insert the Compact Flash memory card into the card reader. Don't insert the card at an angle, as this could damage the pins in the reader. Wait a few seconds for the computer to recognize the card.
- 3). Right-click on the "Start" button at the bottom left of the desktop and choose "Explore" from the menu that pops up.
- 4). Click on "Computer" on the left side of the screen, the side with all the file folders, to bring up a list of all the drives on the computer.
- 5). Right-click on the Compact Flash card and choose "Format" from the pop-up menu.
- 6). Leave all of the options on their defaults and click on the "Start" button. Click "OK" on the box that warns you that all data will be erased. The computer will now erase the flash drive. This can take several minutes to finish. A pop-up window will let you know when the formatting is complete.
